The first place goes to the planning studio Küchen Atelier Schaffhausen from Hamburg
The planning studio Küchen Atelier Schaffhausen from Hamburg has won first place at the prestigious Global Kitchen Design Awards 2024. In the voting process, the studio stood out against strong national and international competition, impressing with an outstanding kitchen design that harmoniously integrates into the historic architecture of a former dairy in Siebenbäumen (Schleswig-Holstein). The award-winning kitchen, seamlessly blending with the building's characteristic brick architecture, forms the heart of an open living area and combines stylish design with high functionality.
A design that excellently combines the open kitchen and existing brick architecture
The award-winning design by Küchen Atelier Schaffhausen is located in a private home in rural Siebenbäumen, Schleswig-Holstein. What stands out is the harmonious integration of the open kitchen into the characteristic brick architecture of a former dairy, which now serves as a family residence. The kitchen on the ground floor is designed as a spacious living area, where cooking, dining, and living merge into an inviting unity.
Large windows open up the view of the surrounding nature and allow plenty of natural light to flood in. Natural and high-quality materials such as wood, stone, and concrete give the space warmth and authenticity. The exposed brick walls, along with numerous open and decorative niches, shape the interior in a unique way. In close collaboration with the residents, details were carefully planned to create an environment that aligns with their personal preferences.
The kitchen is designed as the central element of social interaction and is visible from all areas of the living space – a place for both intensive daily use and gathering. At the heart of the space is a monolithic dark island block, complemented by a corner counter made of solid wood. The island block with the CLASSIC-FS surface in slate black combines essential functions, such as the sink and cooktop, and offers practical, enclosed storage space all around. On the opposite brick walls, there are cabinet units in the CONTINO design line. While the cabinet for baking and steaming appliances is also in slate black, creating a harmonious color scheme with the island block, the opposite cabinet unit is subtly differentiated in alpine gray. A large gable window directs daylight onto the work area and emphasizes the open layout.
The alpine gray cabinet unit continues into the living area in a corner arrangement and offers additional storage as well as display space for many of the family's belongings. In keeping with the kitchen block and the baking and steaming cabinets, the cabinet elements are also designed with the CONTINO program and the velvety CLASSIC-FS surface. In this way, Küchen Atelier Schaffhausen creates an individualized spatial concept that harmoniously connects the kitchen with the adjacent living area.
The design in the historic dairy in Siebenbäumen is an outstanding example of the seamless integration of the kitchen into an entirely open living space. It demonstrates how the kitchen can not only serve the purpose of food preparation but also fulfill the functions of representation and livability. Central to this are expert design decisions made down to the smallest detail, which Küchen Atelier Schaffhausen arrived at through close collaboration with the homeowner and the architects. The award of first place at the Global Kitchen Design Awards 2024 confirms the continuously unique design work of the planning studio Küchen Atelier Schaffhausen, which skillfully utilizes the high-quality products of LEICHT with great sensitivity and design expertise to fulfill customer wishes while responding to the architectural characteristics of the living space.
