In this year's edition of the Global Kitchen Design Awards, Küchenwerkstatt Kemptner from Amberg secured second place
As part of the renovation of a detached family home from the 1990s in Schnaittenbach/Oberpfalz, the floor plan was reorganized: An added conservatory now extends the ground floor toward the garden, making the surrounding greenery an integral part of the interior. The kitchen, previously in a separate room, was moved to the former dining room, which now seamlessly transitions into the newly created, bright living space. The new family kitchen, where meals are prepared daily, now occupies a prominent place within the floor plan and becomes the central point of daily life for a family with three children. It was intended to be both representative and functional, fitting unobtrusively into the existing living space with the materials at hand. Modern, simple, and bright, the homeowner desired the cooking area to have a welcoming atmosphere.
The experienced planners at Küchenwerkstatt Kemptner from Amberg chose the BONDI program in the PRIMO and AVANCE design lines with the CLASSIC-FS surface in the color mohair. "The mohair shade is timelessly elegant and creates an appealing contrast to the oak wood floor already present on the ground floor," explains planner Albert Kemptner. "The slatted design that frames the cooking island and the tall cabinet row like a passepartout and continues into the adjoining living area was custom-made in our own carpentry shop in oak/black."
At the heart of the house, the cooking area, dining zone, and living space flow seamlessly into one another and are characterized by light colors and natural, high-quality materials. To create clear lines, the planners cleverly clad an adjacent sloping staircase and a wall projection with a floor-to-ceiling kitchen element that houses the sink, dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, other appliances, and plenty of storage space. The elements designed in the PRIMO and AVANCE lines with the CLASSIC-FS surface in the mohair shade appear minimalist and almost monolithic. Powder-coated handles and handle profiles in the same color enhance this effect. The 20mm thick ceramic countertops take on the light beige-gray tone of the fronts. Integrated lighting sources in the kitchen units and a 60 cm wide, equally tall recess lined with slats, serving as both a practical and representative shelf, break up the stringent design as special eye-catchers. A matte black faucet and the similarly black power rail with LED spotlights beneath the ceiling create dark contrasts to the light interior architectural ensemble.
Based on the concept of open and inclusive living space design, Küchenwerkstatt Kemptner implemented an ambitious design solution with this project – high-quality, minimalist, elegant, and with clear lines. It is an outstanding example of seamlessly integrating the kitchen into the heart of family life. Central to this are expert design decisions down to the finest detail, made by designer Albert Kemptner in close collaboration with discerning clients. The recognition through the Global Kitchen Design Awards confirms the continuous and unique design work of the LEICHT Exclusiv Studio from Amberg, which skillfully uses LEICHT’s high-quality products with great sensitivity and planning expertise to fulfill individual client wishes and take into account the architectural features of their living spaces.
